Cap Barbell 1000lb Solid Test Olympic Bar

olympic barbells

This is the perfect Olympic Bar for most people.  If you are doing slow lifts less than 400 lbs, or fast lifts below 200 lbs, this is a great cheaper barbell for you.  If you are lifting beyond these numbers, look below at our other options.

Part of a review:  ”This bar is great for my Crossfit workouts. I won’t get near the weight capacity of the barbell. But, it is a big improvement over the cheaper barbells that have a test rate of 600 lbs.  The design is solid throughout, as the caps are sealed so you don’t have to worry about tightening the allen wrench screws. I’ve deadlifted up to 340 lbs with this bar and haven’t had any problems.  I also do a good amount of Olympic lifting with my Crossfit style Metcon workouts.  I use bumper plates, and when I throw 175lbs over my head and drop it, it has no problems.”

That being said, the stronger people out there will need a stronger Olympic Bar, but for a ton of people lifting weights, this is a great cheap Olympic barbell.  It also has a diameter of 28.5mm which is very close to the Olympic standard of 28mm.  We recommend this as our go to cheaper option when comparing it to the Rogue Beater Bar, which has a 31mm diameter which may be harder to grip for a lot of people, especially younger people and women who generally have smaller hands.

With free shipping, and a low cost, it is a perfect fit for a lot of people.

York Barbell – 7 ft 1000lb Olympic Barbell

York and weightlifting have gone hand in hand for a long time.  Which is why we feel confident recommending this 1000lb 7 foot York Barbell.  York used its vast knowledge in bar design and produced perhaps the highest quality, most functional and attractive Olympic Bar of today. York applied its signature “split sleeve” design to each bar which replaces the outmoded bolt and sleeve assembly. This means the sleeve assembly won’t loosen or detach. The York barbell is manufactured from North American made steel.

The Black Oxide International Bars are finished with a black Oxide coating & feature hard chrome split sleeves. It is a strikingly attractive bar. The black oxide finish has an aggressive grip.  A slight upgrade from the Cap barbell, this is better suited for some heavier weights and more Olympic lifting.  However, the editors of this page still recommend the Pendlay barbells below.

NexGen Bushing Barbell and Bearing Barbell

So neither of the above Olympic Barbells were able to satisfy you?  That is because you either value quality, lift serious weight, or want something made in the U.S.A.  You’ve found it.  The Pendlay NexGen Olympic Barbells are made from the strongest steel, while still having enough flex or whip to be perfect for Olympic lifts.  They managed to do this with their high nickel content steel, which is unique to their Olympic barbells.  Another unique thing, is their single collar construction which allows for flawless spin, and just one more reason why they have a lifetime warranty.

The NexGen bar has never been returned being it has bent, and the reason for this, is that it goes through the highest possible testing, which is a 3500 lb test.  Another sweet thing about this barbell is the bright zinc coating throughout.  This coating absorbs into the steel, unlike other coatings that chip off.  Also, there is no black oxide coating like many of Rogue Fitness bars have, which is another great thing about this Olympic barbell.  The black oxide coating is very harmful for the environment and has been banned in most of Europe.  Another unique thing about this Olympic barbell is that it has a gel lubricant, which makes the spin very easy, thus reducing the strain on your wrists.

The final question is, should you buy the Pendlay NexGen Bearing Barbell or the Pendlay NexGen Bushing Barbell?  As a rule of thumb, if you plan on doing a lot of Olympic lifting, grab the Bearing barbell.  However, they are both fantastic Olympic barbells, and you won’t be disappointed with either one.  Choose the first and last Olympic barbell you will ever need.

Olympic Barbell

Which Olympic Barbell is right for you?  This depends on what type of lifting you plan on doing.  If you plan on moving some serious weight, then choosing a high quality Olympic Bar is important.  Having the right flex or whip in your Olympic Barbell is without a doubt one of the most important things.  However, you also want to make sure it is a very strong Olympic Barbell so when you throw 500 lbs on it for a heavy deadlift or squat it won’t bend at all.   If you are serious about what you do, you have to buy a serious Olympic Barbell.  Hands down the Pendlay Bushing bar and the Pendlay Bearing bar are some of the best Olympic barbells to own.  With a lifetime warranty and everything anyone could want in an Olympic Barbell, you simply can’t go wrong.

Which Olympic Barbell do we own?  Personally, we own a couple NexGen Bushing Barbells.  We didn’t have the coin and aren’t serious enough Olympic weight lifters to put the NexGen Bearing bar to use, however, we wanted a quality Olympic Barbell that would last us a lifetime.
